The Ashmark Institute of Australia provides an English course for students from non-English speaking backgrounds with intermediate to upper intermediate level English skills who wish to gain the language skills necessary for further study or employment. The focus is on improving all four languages skills, namely, speaking, reading, writing and listening. This course is based upon the Victorian Qualifications Authority-accredited ESL Framework, 2007. Program content is responsive to student needs. The core modules cover the basics of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Elective modules provide opportunities for support and extension of language, plus enhancement of vocational and educational pathways.

To be eligible for this course, students must be over 18 years of age and from a non-English speaking background. At this level it is assumed that learners will have intermediate to upper-intermediate English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are required to have an IELTS band of at least 5. Students with IELTS band 4.5 will also be considered but special minimum duration course requirements apply, as outlined below.
