This course aims to prepare educators to teach dance, physical education, health education and personal development in secondary education and to apply their knowledge and skills in other educational and professional contexts. Students can simultaneously broaden their experience in dance and in physical education in an environment focusing on educational pedagogy. Both areas are supported by the study of personal development, health and the anatomy of the human body. The course is taught via lectures, tutorials, dance classes, performance workshops, seminars and individual tuition. Students also complete four professional experience sessions in a range of schools. The degree caters for those seeking a career as teachers of Dance and PDHPE in secondary schools, as well as those seeking other professional careers associated with Dance or Dance Education. Students will be qualified to: teach dance in secondary schools in government and non-government sectors, teach PDHPE in secondary schools in government and non-government sectors, teach dance in private dance studios, teach dance, sport and other physical pursuits for community groups and coordinate community programs in dance, arts and recreation.

Students must have completed a minimum NSW Higher School Certificate with an average of 65 per cent, or a minimum ATAR of 68, or equivalent International Baccalaureate; or a qualification from a recognized higher education institution; or a recognized TAFE or other recognized VET provider qualifications (either an associate diploma, diploma, advanced diploma or tertiary preparation certificate). They need to have completed at least one of the following criteria: at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree course at an Australian university and satisfied entry requirements specified under formal articulation arrangements determined by Academic Board. Students may also possess a recognized overseas qualification and demonstrate proficiency in English. Additionally students are required to participate in an interview and achieve a satisfactory outcome.

The Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) is a specialist, independent tertiary institution, founded in 1917. ACPE was originally established as a physical education training institution for young women. Students in Sydney will live locally with family, use home stay or rent share accommodation. Home stay accommodation costs around AU$135 - AU$185 per week on average. If students plan to rent in Sydney, make sure they allow for a rental bond equal to four to six weeks rent. Weekly rental costs vary with location and quality. Rental rates may range from AU$100 to AU$250 per week. Students will also find hostel accommodation from AU$100 to AU$200 per week.
